Two workers at Pizzaman in Ghana have been jailed for five years for engaging in theft.
According to reports, the two workers were able to conspire to steal 25 cartons of chicken and vegetables that were meant to be prepared to serve customers.
Sharing the details of the story on the radio, Abeiku Santana narrated that each of the workers was jailed for five years.
He maintained that it was unfair for the company to jail the workers considering that they have been working with the food firm for years.
“It is very unfair to jail these workers for five years each. The owner of Pizzaman parades himself as a youth leader but is very uncompromising. You could have deducted the fee from their salaries. I am not condoning thievery, but for you to jail these workers for five years for stealing chicken wings, it is not fair,” he said.
Meanwhile, many people disagree with Abeiku Santana for standing against the punitive measures taken by Pizzaman against the workers which would serve as a deterrent to others.
Owners of several businesses always do complain about the bad attitude of some workers who deliberately steal from them and run their ventures down the drain.i

BACKGROUND…
A Ghanaian court has sentenced two employees of Pizzaman Eatery, Seidu Karim and Rashid Abdullah, to five years imprisonment for stealing 20 boxes of chicken wings and two gallons of cooking oil from the company’s warehouse in Kumasi, Ghana.
According to Ghana News Guide on Friday, prosecuting officer, ASP Jonas Newlove Adjei, told the court presided over by Judge Fred Obekyere Esq, that on Monday, May 1, 2023, the complainant, who is the executive chef of Pizzaman, received a call from his warehouse manager that two cooking oil and eight boxes of chicken wings had been stolen.
The chef upon hearing the news quickly went to take their daily stock and discovered that indeed the items had been stolen.
In an emergency meeting the same day, workers were asked to provide the stolen items.
The news outlet reports that during interrogation, Abdullah revealed that Karim hid two gallons of cooking oil behind the fence wall.
Karim, in his defense, stated that he saw Rashid Abdullah hiding two boxes of chicken wings at the back of the fence wall as well.
The stolen items were retrieved from them and they were later handed over to the police, where investigations were conducted.
In the course of investigations, Karim confessed that in a period of two months, he had stolen 20 gallons of cooking oil from the company.
The accused persons were charged and sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labour each.
