Professor Grace Nkansa Asante, the esteemed lecturer of Economics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, has become the first female professor of Economics in Ghana.
With nearly two decades of teaching experience, Professor Asante has left this indelible mark on the academic landscape of Ghana and beyond.
As the first female Economics Professor in Ghana, Professor Asante’s journey to this esteemed position has been one of dedication, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to her craft. Born and raised in Ghana, she developed a passion for economics at a young age, fueled by a desire to understand the mechanisms that drive economies and shape societies.
After completing her undergraduate studies in French and Economics at KNUST, Professor Asante went on to pursue further academic achievements, earning a master’s degree from the University of Ghana Legon and ultimately obtaining her PhD in Economics from KNUST. Her academic journey was marked by academic excellence and a thirst for knowledge, laying the foundation for her future contributions to the field.
Throughout her career, Professor Asante has demonstrated a keen interest in economic policy issues, finance, and monetary matters. Her research endeavors have delved into pressing economic challenges facing Ghana and the broader African continent, contributing valuable insights to the development discourse. Prior to her tenure at KNUST, she honed her research skills as a research officer at the Governance Division of the African Development Bank in Abidjan, where she made significant contributions to the bank’s efforts to promote good governance and economic development in Africa.
In addition to her scholarly pursuits, Professor Asante is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of economists and thought leaders. As the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at KNUST, she plays a pivotal role in shaping the academic agenda and fostering a culture of excellence within the university community. Her dedication to teaching extends beyond the classroom, as she actively engages in mentoring and guiding students on their academic and professional journeys.
Outside of academia, Professor Asante is a devout member of the Anglican Communion, where she serves as a Priest at the Archbishop Thomas Cranmer Anglican Church at KNUST. Her faith is a guiding force in her life, shaping her values and influencing her commitment to service and community engagement.
In her leisure time, Professor Asante enjoys writing bible tracts, participating in church activities, and spending quality time with children. Her love for teaching and nurturing extends beyond the university campus, as she actively engages in community outreach initiatives aimed at empowering youth and promoting social welfare.
