Ghana has over 500 Senior High Schools across its 16 regions categorized into Category A, Category B, Category C, and Category D schools.
These schools are categorized based on academics, facilities, academic, extracurricular activities, and many others.
Every senior high school has the objective of training its students to excel in various facets of life. It must be noted that senior high schools shape the academic life of students and their spiritual life as well – like the case of seminary schools.
Schools, in general, are known to be one of the important agents of socialization, and students meet several people from diverse backgrounds and learn different behaviors, consciously or unconsciously.
A school provides a structured education to the child and promotes their mental and psychological growth. Apart from learning academics, a child also learns other essential life skills such as teamwork, good manners, unity, sharing, and responsibility.
Since school is indispensable in shaping our wards, it is very important to know the disciplinary level of the schools we would want our wards to attend.
Here’s Why
Our wards spend most of their time in school, and there’s a high probability that there are so many things that will be learned in school than at home. This means that as a parent, you should be concerned with the school you choose for your ward.
Are these schools really bad?
These schools may not be bad in general, as it is publicly known. People attend these schools from diverse backgrounds, so there is no way you have over 4,000 students and expect them to live up to society’s standards.
That’s why the Ghana Education Service has Rules and regulations it uses to regulate public and private schools in the country. It is just surprising that most of the schools we will mention are the best-known schools in the country.
Is there any way to change public perception?
There are several ways authorities of these senior high schools can use to change the public perception. For instance, Kumasi High School in the Ashanti Region employed measures to control the general behavior of its students, and the school was adjudged the most disciplined school in Ashanti Region by the Regional Education Unit.
Students who misbehaved in or outside the school were given harsh punishments like rustication or given several months of suspension. Kumasi High School is undoubtedly getting better.
